ABILIS Foundation

Organizational Mission:

ABILIS Foundation is a development fund, founded by people with disabilities in Finland in 1998. Its mandate is to support the empowerment of disabled persons in the Global South (developing countries).

ABILIS Foundation supports activities that contribute toward equal opportunities for disabled people in society through human rights, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency. Special priority is given to projects on advocating for human rights of disabled people and to activities developed and implemented by disabled women.

ABILIS Foundation gives small grants ranging from 500 to 10.000 Euros to projects initiated by disabled persons. These are one-time grants for new projects. They support organizations that are run by persons who have a disability, be it related to mobility, vision, hearing or any other type of disability. They also support organisations that are run by parents of children with disabilities.

Human Rights Program Mission

ABILIS makes grants to carefully chosen DPOs in developing countries in order to strengthen the capacity of disabled peoples' organization (DPOs) in the global South so that they are better able to advocate for their Human Rights as articulated by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The strategy is to strengthen the capacity of persons with disabilities through (a) organization building and strengthening, (b) awareness raising activities and (c) advocacy efforts to promote the human rights articulated by the CRPD.
